The Exercise program

  • Tiered exercise classes designed to accommodate each person's cognitive and physical abilities.

  • Hour long in-person exercise classes include stretching, cardio, strengthening, and balance work.

  • Exercise classes are designed for both the person living with dementia/MCI and a care partner.  A care partner may be a spouse, child, or friend willing to provide emotional or physical support during classes. 

  • A diagnosis is NOT required to participate.  If you are noticing changes in your thinking, please reach out to see if this is right for you.  Early intervention is key.  

Step 1:  Contact Us

We would love to hear from you!  Starting with a phone call or an email we will collect some general information about your unique situation and answer any questions you may have about the program.  We can also schedule your free in-person health screening which is required before attending an exercise class.  

Step 3:  The rules

Your screener will determine whether the participant may exercise alone, or if a care partner is required to assist during classes.  This is not a drop off service.  If a care partner is not required to assist directly they have options.  One option is to exercise with us.  The health of our care partners is just as important as their person with brain change.  Another option is to wait nearby and either relax or talk to other care partners. 

Step 2:  The screening

We will review current and past medical history to determine any potential limitations to safe exercise. Then we will look at your movement, strength, vision, and cognition to determine which class is the best fit.  

Step 4:  Meet your exercise                community

Even if you aren't comfortable with exercise classes, we will be there every step of the way encouraging you to work at the level that is safe and right for your body.  Many who come to POD Fitness do not have any experience with group exercise so there is no reason to feel intimidated.  Everyone here is looking for both support and friendship so we will do our best to make you feel welcome.
