Partner Focused
Classes are designed for both the person living with dementia/MCI and a care partner. A care partner may be a spouse, child, friend, or caregiving professional willing to provide emotional or physical support during classes.
Dementia‑Knowledgeable Coaches
Classes are led by instructors with training in dementia and mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Exercises can be adapted to meet individual physical abilities and pre‑existing conditions, so everyone can participate safely and confidently.
Tiered Classes
Our in-person program is designed to accommodate both the person living with dementia/MCI and a care partner. We offer two distinct classes that are divided based on cognition, so that classes are designed to best match the abilities of each group. Unlike our virtual program, we are able to work with clients later into the disease. Please reach out if you are unsure whether this might work for your loved one.

Dementia or Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and Care Partners

Step 1: Let's Connect

We would love to hear from you! Start with a phone call or email so we can learn more about your unique situation, answer any questions about the program, and discuss next steps. During this conversation, we can also schedule a time for you to observe a class.
Step 3: Complimentary
Screening

Step 2: See Us in Action
Based on the information you share, we’ll recommend the class that may be the best fit and invite you to observe. Many people living with dementia have difficulty understanding language, but respond well to movement based activities like exercise. Observing a class allows you to see this in action and get a sense of our supportive environment.

Step 4: Meet your exercise community
Before joining, we complete a free screening to ensure the best class placement. We’ll review relevant medical history and assess movement, and strength. This helps determine whether the participant can exercise independently or needs a care partner present during class. POD Fitness is not a drop off program. If a care partner is not needed to assist directly, they may choose to exercise with us or relax nearby.
Even if you aren't comfortable with exercise classes, we will be there every step of the way encouraging you to work at the level that is safe and right for your body. Many who come to POD Fitness do not have any experience with group exercise so there is no reason to feel intimidated. Everyone here is looking for support and friendship, and we will do our best to make you feel welcome.
